🌸 Image of the Week: “Girl On Bench”

Next week is the 4th of July! The 4th of July holds a special place in my heart. It marks the start of a journey with never ending discoveries.

It was the 4th of July and, after a day of face painting and jumpy houses, my daughter sat exhausted on our backyard bench. As I looked at her, I knew something was about to happen, and I was instantly transported to my own childhood and its feelings of loneliness and imaginary friends. I was always playing by myself, I felt safer that way; anything to avoid reality. That sunny 4th of July day is what started my career as a Fine Art Photographer. It was “Girl On Bench” that launched a 6 year exploration of girlhood which would soon give birth to the Dolls Series. At my debut art show in a Eureka, CA cafe, “Girl On Bench” was the first original photograph I sold. For many years, I had never imagined selling a photograph, let alone at my first show. But, after that first sale, I exploded onto the gallery scene and was soon offered a group exhibit in the Soho District of New York City. “Girl On Bench” is still one of my #1 selling prints, and will always remain very close to my heart. I think it will become one of your favorites as well.
